About Wish Upon a Wedding

Founded in January of 2010 by CA wedding planner, Liz Guthrie of San Jose Wedding Consultants, Wish Upon a Wedding was
created to help couples who did not have the time, money, resources or strength to plan a wedding on their own, because of terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances. The organization now celebrates the courage, determination and spirit of these couples by
granting their dream wedding wishes. It is their goal that chosen recipients can
inspire other couples facing similar situations to find hope and strength, while raising awareness for terminal illness.

Growing up with a sister who was deaf since birth, and raised by parents who ran a board and care home for people facing numerous disabilities and life hardships, Liz learned early on to value the many blessings in life, and the importance of helping others. Volunteering throughout her life for a variety of nonprofit organizations, Liz was looking for a way to combine weddings and community service.

After producing the San Francisco Dream Wedding Giveaway in 2009, a contest in which only one couple would be granted a dream wedding, Liz came up with a way to merge her two passions. While going through the process of giving the wedding "prize" to a woman suffering from stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Liz  created Wish Upon a Wedding. Overnight, Liz decided to change wedding history, and the way we give, by launching a nonprofit organization that was totally unique and had never existed before.

Supported by industry leaders such as Sasha Souza, David Beahm, Stella Inserra, Jenny Orsini, Kevin Covey, Stacie Francombe, Sylvia Weinstock, Steve Kemble, Mindy Weiss, Mary Dann, and Ivy Robinson (to name just a few), the organization has experienced rapid growth and seen voracious acceptance throughout the country.

To date, eight couples have benefited from the generous work of Wish Upon a Wedding. Over 4,000 volunteers have signed up to become Wish Granters. Their facebook page has attracted over 10,000 fans.

None of this would be possible without public support.

In Loving Memory of Wish Recipients who have Passed On

Sometimes a Professional Socialite Must Polka

Hey Lovelies,

I have had an intersting day. This morning I had the opportunity to be on Great Day Houston with Debra Duncan!

The original purpose for me being there was to sit in the audience and record a PSA after the show for the 10th Annual Pink on the Green Tournament that the Missouri City Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha puts on every year to benefit Julia F. Thompson, Inc. I was already feeling like I was running late after being stuck in traffic no matter which way I went but I made it in time. Lucky me!

I soon find out that I have been volunteered to dance on the show with the representives for Oktoberfest! I was, to say the least, honored and shocked! My lovely Sorors had offered me up and I had no warning. I'm so happy they did! It was a wonderful experience and my mother and grandmother enjoyed the links so I thought I'd share it with you as well.

For those of you that don't know my face...I'm the cute chocolate girl with the bouncy curls and pearls! Enjoy!

The "I Do" Brunch 2010

Hello Lovelies,

I know it has been a minute since you've heard from us but we promise you we have not forgotten about you. This past weekend Megan and I attended the "I Do" Brunch in Baltimore. The event was hosted by Who's Wedding Is It Anyway planner, Linnyette Richardson-Hall and her wonderful team at Premier Event Management. The "I Do" Brunch is a chance for wedding planner to be on the other side of the event and be a guest.

The brunch had an English Garden theme and it was carried out in every detail from the tablescape, to the food, to the tea attire and hats.

The Gathering Place was the AMAZING venue that housed the brunch. Once you walked into the room, you were transported to an English Garden Tea Party. I took tons of pictures of the tables and you can see more on our Facebook Fan Page.

Shades of purple, green, gold, and silver....sigh....I love it all. These are colors that can work for a daytime or evening wedding and adding a personal touch will make your day truly unique to you and your guests.

The last centerpiece is my FAV! I'm so inspired every time I attended an event is it should inspire you as well.

I went for the first time on Friday, Feb 19th and it was a wonderful experience. Since I already have an overlay on my nails I got to try her Sequin Nails. Myths Behind the Month

Hey Huns,

I received a fan page request from an invitation company called Precious Invitations so of course I went to check out their page and saw something that caught my eye. On their site there was a recent post entitled Behind the Tradition: The Right Time to Marry and I immediately perked up....I have a thing for learning the myths and stories behind all the traditions of marriage. You'd be surprised some of the stories you get. Anyway the entry talks about what the Victorians felt each month meant for your marriage. Here's what they say:

January Marry when the year is new, he’ll be loving , kind, and true.

February When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate.

March If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know.

April Marry in April if you can, joy for maiden and for man.

May Marry in the month of May, you will surely rue the day.

June Marry when June roses grow and over land and sea you’ll go.

July Those who in July do wed must labour for their daily bread.

August Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see.

September Marry in September’s shine so that your life is rich and fine.

October If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.

November If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember!

December When December’s snows fall fast, marry, and your love will last.

Still undecided about when to be married? There is always the Victorian assurance that the luckiest time of all to be married is on the same day of the week that the groom was born, regardless of fertility rites, harvest moons, or when the goddess of love might be looking on. It is better yet to marry on his birthday.

Interesting, right? If you want to see the whole entry check out Precious Invitations' Guide to Your Wedding Experience or click the title of the entry above. Happy Reading!

Blissfully,
Crystal

Dine Around

Hello Everyone,

Trying to keep up with two blogs is a lot so I've decided to make Blissful Tales of Professional Socialites more about my personal encounters and stories about this wonderful journey.

As we have worked our way down the road of turning Professional Socialites into a household name we realized that people really look at us as "Professional" Socialites. Friends contact us to ask what's the best club on a certain night or have we heard anything about a certain restaurant. It's kinda a cool position. You see when we Megan and I started going out all the time while we were in college people didn't believe us when we said we had a plan for all this. Now looking back there are so many people that I could tell "I told you so". Ha ha.

In our article in Premier Bride Magazine we talked about ways to make the tradiational bridesmaid's luncheon creative by doing a dine around. Cool idea right? So I started thing about how I would do it for myself. The concept behind the dine around is that you meet at one restaurant for appetizers, a second for your entree, and a third for desert followed by drinks and dancing. There are so many great places in Houston so imagine this...

Galleria Area

Appetizers and Cocktails - Kona Grill

Entree - Maggino's Little Italy

Desert- Berripop

Dancing and Drinks - Belevedere

Check out our article "Don't Forget to Enjoy" in Premier Bride Greater Houston Magazine!!

Tell me what you think everyone!

Blissfully Yours,
Crystal
